FGF5 is a natural protein produced in the scalp that stops hair growth and initiates hair fall. In a normal, healthy hair cycle, the hair fall is followed by the emergence of a new hair from stem cells in the scalp. However, if you are stressed, have hormonal changes, inadequate nutrients, are responsive to DHT or have a genetic predisposition, too much FGF5 can build up in the scalp resulting in excess hair fall, slow growth, poor quality hair and hair loss. This process can also happen as we age. By blocking the action of FGF5, the negative impact of this protein can be halted or reversed, resulting in increased growth, reduced hair fall and better quality, youthful hair.

If you decide to stop using évolis®, you will no longer be receiving the benefits of our active botanicals. While you won’t see an immediate impact, your hair will slowly return to where it was before you started using évolis®.

We have not recorded any serious side effects in people using évolis® to date. Rarely, people who suffer from a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or sensitive skin may experience mild reaction.

évolis® focusses on the health of the hair's natural growth cycle. In most cases of hair loss and in hair ageing, there is a build of a protein called FGF5 on the scalp. FGF5 attaches to the hair follicle and stops it from growing, leading to hair fall. Clinical studies have shown that blocking FGF5 can reduce hair loss, increase hair growth and improve the appearance of thinning hair.

Yes. You may have seen recent stories in the media, on Instagram or Reddit describing significant hair loss in people recovering from COVID-19. Believe it or not, this is not due to the action of the virus itself, but because of the body’s response to severe illness. When fighting infection or disease, the body uses a lot of energy. The incredible adaptivity of our physiology means that resources can be taken from non-vital functions such as nail and hair growth and instead used to help the body fight the disease and recover.
But you do not have to suffer from COVID-19 to experience hair loss; stress is enough to put your hair follicles into reverse. And the last years have been very stressful, to say the least. Stress hormones are normally useful as they get us ready to fight or flight in hairy situations. Hormones are released, blood glucose is mobilised and ready to feed the muscles and to repair the immune system. Unfortunately, it is often at the expense of hair and nail growth.
The scientific term for this type of hair loss is telogen effluvium. In a nutshell, this means that large numbers of hair follicles have entered into the rest phase of the hair cycle all at once. After a period of a month or two these will all begin to fall out.

Thankfully, the hair loss due to COVID-19 is most likely a telogen effluvium and hair can return to normal. But it may need a little help, and this is where évolis® steps in. évolis® can help hair get back to where it was, faster, as well as help the hair follicles return to a healthier hair cycle, and better quality hair.

If you stop using évolis® the natural botanical actives will stop providing any benefit. This is a gradual, not a sudden, process and will not result in rapid hair fall. It is recommended that you use évolis® regularly to keep hair and scalp healthy and avoid excess hair fall.

Yes, you can certainly use evolis® with minoxidil, you may find they help each other. Just be mindful that stopping minoxidil suddenly can result in more shedding.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a hormone found in men and women. In men, DHT is at higher levels than women and contributes to the development of masculine characteristics, such as larger muscles and body hair. In some people, DHT is thought to contribute to hair loss.

évolis® does not contain any direct DHT blockers, but takes a different strategy. It takes a little to explain so please bear with us. Hair loss is complex and multifactorial. ...Several Recent very large studies of men with hair loss have shown that over 150 genes may be involved in hair loss, including the androgen receptor which responds to DHT in some men. But most importantly the studies have shown that FGF5 protein is a top 10 gene product associated with hair loss.

FGF5 is the last biological step that leads to hair loss, and our studies have shown that many contributing factors can lead to increased levels of FGF5, including DHT, Age, stress, other hormones. In a nutshell, aberrant DHT signalling via the androgen receptor in some men and women leads to a build-up of FGF5 which signals hair to stop growing and fall out.

Sure, DHT can be blocked directly, but this is associated with a lot of side effects as DHT is essential for many other functions in the male body, including sexual performance and masculinity. FGF5 is only involved in hair signalling in the adult body and is the last step in the chain, so there is a much smaller chance of side effects.

FGF5 is a much better and stronger target for hair loss hair loss treatments than addressing DHT alone.

The cloudiness you see in this product is completely normal. We have a number of botanical ingredients in this product that don’t dissolve very easily in water. We have tried to keep the alcohol content as low as possible in this product, so sometimes we see them coming out of solution as small microspheres or micelles of essential oils.

The culprits are usually pomegranate (brown colour), Swertia chirata (fine cloudiness) and Sanguisorba officinalis (red). Rest assured that this precipitation doesn’t affect the activity of the product, as once the essential oils hit the natural oils of your scalp and skin they return to a liquid form. You can assess this on the back of your hand. Most of our amazing evolis users have seen their results with this formulation and it was the basis of several of our consumer studies, so we are confident in it.

Long hair requires a healthy hair cycle and optimum strand health. The actives in évolis® can help you maintain a strong hair cycle and optimal, fast growth for maximising hair length. The évolis® shampoos, conditioners and masks ensure each strand is maintained in optimal condition, preventing breakage and split ends for longer, stronger, better hair.

You will need to use évolis® for a minimum of 16 weeks or 120 days to see significant results, but you will be able to notice a number of changes much sooner. Results you can expect include:

If you suffer from a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin we recommend you do a spot test to ensure no irritation will occur before proceeding with daily use of the product. If irritation should occur, stop using the product immediately, if symptoms persist consult your health care professional. If in doubt, please consult your doctor before using the product.

Yes. Female hormones have a strong effect on the hair cycle and for some women, specific birth control pills can lead to hair loss. Some implantable (IUD) hormone releasing birth control devices in particular are associated with hair loss.

If you are experiencing hair loss because of your current birth control, then you should speak to your physician about alternatives. Often, swapping to a different formulation can help.

Please speak to your doctor about your specific treatment programme. Some treatments for cancer can result in hair loss, évolis® will not be able to prevent this. Thankfully, chemotherapy or radiotherapy induced hair loss is reversible. Under your doctor’s guidance, évolis® may be used once your treatment is complete and your hair is beginning to grow back.

Are your products suitable for gluten sensitive users?
Our Prevent range is ok for you to use. Our Reverse and Promote ranges contain hydrolysed wheat, but this has been extensively broken down and it is unlikely to be allergenic. As most individuals’ gluten sensitivity or reactivity occurs in the gut, and évolis® is a topical product, it is highly unlikely that any of the product will reach the sensitive area. If you'd like to use either the Reverse or Promote range and you are worried, it may be safer to do a spot test first. We can send out some samples of Promote for you to try.

These types of alopecia are not caused by a disruption in the hair growth cycle. These types of hair loss are due to an autoimmune disorder, where the body treats the hair as a foreign body and rejects the hair, resulting in hair loss. A trichologist or dermatologist must treat this type of hair loss. Once the underlying cause has been treated, évolis® can be used to help support hair growth and ensure hair grows in the best possible environment.

Thyroid issues can cause hair loss. Both overactive and underactive thyroid can result in hair loss and thinning. This can be a generalised thinning all over the scalp or, if you have an autoimmune thyroid condition, you may be more susceptible to autoimmune hair loss such as alopecia areata which appears as hair loss in a circular pattern.

Thyroid hormones can act directly on the hair follicle itself, causing a disruption of the hair cycle which can change the pattern of growth, resulting in more shedding or a change in the thickness of the hair that is growing.

The first thing you should do is see your physician to make sure your thyroid hormone levels are in check, without correcting these your hair challenges will be difficult to counteract.

Once your thyroid levels are stable, évolis® may be helpful in returning your hair cycle to a more normal pattern and help speed up the regrowth. We have seen some success in improving the appearance of hair in women with thyroid problems such as Hashimoto’s disease.

Some scar tissue will never regrow hair. Once the follicles have been lost, they will not grow back. However, if there are remnant hair follicles around and in your scar tissue, évolis® may help to increase their health and thickness.

évolis® may help to improve hair health in these situations, but we have no studies performed on individuals taking these types of medications so we cannot give a definite positive answer. Any results may depend on the medication and how strong the dose is.

Almost everyone will experience hair changes as they get older, but évolis will help to slow these down and can reverse some of the symptoms of aging, i.e., progressive hair loss and hair thinning.

évolis® can be used by any adult experiencing hair challenges or looking for longer, stronger, better quality hair. However, sudden changes in the hair should be referred to a physician, likewise hair loss or any hair changes in young people or children should also be referred to a physician.
