Hair loss is determined by FGF5

What is FGF5?

FGF5 is a natural protein, found in the scalp, that controls the hair life cycle. It slows down hair growth by signaling hair to fall out in both men and women. Hormones, genetics, changes in diet, stress, illness (such as COVID-19), trauma and age can trigger FGF5 to prematurely cause the hair to fall. Leading to ongoing hair thinning and hair loss. By blocking FGF5 you can achieve thicker, stronger, healthier hair!

How it works:

Our hair growth cycle is responsible for the aging of our hair. By controlling the hair growth cycle and keeping it in the growth phase (anagen phase), you will have more hair growing at any one time resulting in thicker, fuller, healthy looking hair.

- Hair breakage
- Slow growth
- Unmanageable texture
- Increased hair fall

- Longer lengths
- Faster growth
- Less hair fall
- More new hairs
- Thicker, fuller hair
- Easy to manage

  • Aging

A key culprit in hair loss and hair thinning. Over time, the hair cycle becomes shorter, hair fall increases and hair becomes finer.

  • Stress

The stress hormone cortisol can make changes in our bodies that can lead to more hair follicles entering the resting phase. Chronic ongoing stress puts additional pressure on the hair growth cycle leading to poor hair growth and increased hair fall.

  • Hormones

Childbirth, menopause, thyroid and birth control can all contribute to hair loss. Changes in hormones can dramatically affect the hair growth cycle.

  • Diet

Nutritional deficiencies can cause hair thinning and hair loss. Lacking certain vitamins due to dramatic weight loss, imbalanced or restrictive diets can mean your body will direct nutrient supply to essential functions rather than hair growth.

  • Illness

The body responds to illness by altering its use of energy away from the hair to fighting the illness. This combined with an inflammatory response can disrupt the hair growth cycle, often leading to telogen effluvium (sudden rapid hair loss).

  • Autoimmune

An autoimmune disease is where the body mistakenly attacks itself. There are two autoimmune diseases that cause hair loss: Alopecia Areata (hair loss in round patches on the scalp) and Alopecia Universalis (hair loss all over the body).

  • Coloring & Styling

Weakened strands are prone to breakage and drying. Colouring and styling hair can damage the scalp leading to underlying inflammation which can disrupt the hair cycle.
